Addiction: A Search For a Spiritual Path?

Addictions come in all shapes and sizes – substances, food, shopping, the internet, etc. — and lately I have been seeing more clients with these issues coming up for them. I believe that addictions are a search for a spiritual path, so my theory is that many of us are beginning to up-level and as we do so we are being forced to get closer to God, causing our addictive tendencies to begin to surface and ask to be resolved.

Addictions are a physical and psychological dependence on a substance or behavior that begins by using a substance or performing a behavior in order to feel good. The good feelings help the person avoid painful feelings. According to Dr. Devi Nambudripad, “many addictions are caused by allergies.” She says that addictions to sugar, coffee starches, smoking, drugs, and alcohol are caused by various deficiencies that are usually created by allergies. She found that addicted patients were allergic to the B complex vitamins and sugar, and that by desensitizing the person to B vitamins and sugar, the addiction subsided.

Another contributing factor to substance addiction is the relationship between drugs and disrupted chemicals in the brain. Drugs cause a very large and rapid release of dopamine in the brain. The brain responds to these surges by reducing normal dopamine activity. Eventually the disrupted dopamine system renders the addict incapable of feeling any pleasure from anything, even the drugs.

When clients come to me seeking help with their addictions, my first response is to begin balancing their brains using my biofeedback program. Since the brain is the motherboard for the body, getting it to function properly is imperative.

Another important step in working with addiction is to clear any blocks in the person’s field, old trauma, or ancestral patterns that may be causing the underlying issues that led to the addiction in the first place. Using the whole B.R.A.I.N. System, I have seen remarkable results in people who are ready to get help with their addictions, whether foods, medications or something like shopping or internet.

I recall one brave young girl who wanted to stop drinking alcohol and was motivated to transform her life. We got to work and balanced the physical body (using nutrition and biofeedback) and began releasing past traumas. The day we did ancestral clearings she said, “I have not felt like this since I was 13 years old.” As the practitioner I felt her relax and the anxiety in her field leave. Amazing!
